Amrita Shergill was an eminent Indian painter born to a Punjabi Sikh Father and a Hungarian mother. Amrita Sher-gill father name is Umrao Singh Sher-gill. His mother name is Marie Antoinette.
Short Note on Amrita Shergill :-
In 1924 Amrita joined the School of Santa Annciate. In 1927 , her uncle who himself was painter recognized her talent and suggested her to draw live models. Amrita came back in India in 1934. Amrita spent most of her time in Shimla ( Himachal Pradesh) . She after seeing the poverty of rural India much influenced and start drawing canvas. India Post released a stamp of her painting ' Hill Women ' in the year 1978.
" Three Girls " , " Mother India " , " Hill Women are some of the famous paintings of Amrita Sher-gill. She was also a music composer, choreographer , musician , teacher and author.
Amrita Sher-gill died at very early age of 28 years ( 5 December 1941).
